Four Tips for Email!

Yesterday’s FoodTruckr post was all about ways to give back to your customers, but today’s article is going to focus on strategies you can use to show your business a little extra love. For many small business owners, email marketing is one of the most confusing forms of online outreach—but it doesn’t have to be! We believe FoodTruckrs all around the country could be getting a lot more value out of email marketing by following these four simple tips.

1. Make Signing Up Simple

Where can people sign up for your email list? It shouldn’t be hard for customers to figure out! Include a sign-up form that’s easy to find on the main page of your website, along with sign-up boxes on your Facebook or Twitter pages and an in-person sign up sheet at your truck’s window. Though you might want to collect a bit of the customer’s information (like their name and birthday), don’t ask for too many details or you’ll discourage people from signing up.

2. Don’t Spam People

No one likes spam, and you definitely don’t want to bombard your loyal fans’ inboxes with unwanted messages! Make sure to read up on the CAN-SPAM Act and follow the guidelines set out there. Here’s a quick summary of a few of the most important points to keep in mind: You can only send mass emails to people who have opted in to receive those types of messages from you, and you must be sure that your message is clearly marked and makes it easy for the reader to identify who it’s from and what it’s concerning. You also need to include a clear way for recipients to unsubscribe if they no longer want to receive your messages.

3. Give Customers What They Want

This tip is perhaps the most important one of all—your emails should give customers what they really want! Whether you use your email marketing list to send out special offers and coupons, news and updates about your menu and your truck, or a weekly calendar of your upcoming locations, be sure to monitor statistics like how many people are opening your messages and how many people are clicking on items within them to determine whether or not your fans are enjoying the emails. If people aren’t reading your messages, don’t be afraid to switch things up! Your email list is there to promote your business, sure—but it’s true purpose is to serve your customers, which means you need to focus on delivering the content they crave.

4. Maintain a Regular Schedule

When you’re busy running your truck, perfecting your recipes, and booking catering gigs and event appearances, it can be easy to forget about mundane tasks like sending out emails to your audience. However, maintaining a regular schedule is one of the best ways to make sure you’re really getting value out of your list. If you send out emails too sporadically, customers are more likely to ignore them and forget about your truck. Sending out emails on a regular schedule keeps customers’ minds on you and all the delicious meals you have to offer.
