Delegation is a different process for every owner. Nonetheless, in a nutshell, it is when you give some of your tasks/work to your employees (or manager, if you have one). Now, when first starting your business, you’re probably going to be afraid to delegate tasks, because your food truck is your baby, and you are probably going to want to try to make everything perfect, by your standards.

So many people get used to the day-to-day life at work and this leads to complacency. Unfortunately, that could lead to you not achieving as much success as possible. The sooner you give your food truck business everything you have, the sooner you will have the business of your dreams, and the sooner you will have the life of your dreams.

If you are well on your way to reaching your yearly goals, or you have already accomplished that feat, then just keep doing what you have been doing. If you haven’t met your goals yet, or if you are behind, then we encourage you to not get discouraged, because there are still a couple months left in the year, and you are just one catering gig away from reaching your goals, for you never know who is going to ask for a catering gig, what said catering gig is going to lead to next and how much you stand to make at this catering gig in question — you know, if you incorporate catering gigs.

We already know you are an extremely motivated person. After all, it takes some real motivation to become a food truck owner, which you did. Now is where the real fun begins, though, so make sure you are willing to go the extra mile — and then some. If you really want to make your goals come true, then you can’t get complacent. You have to be hustling nonstop. That’s how you make your goals and dreams come true.

There are people who, instead of making goals, like to create habits, and then work on those habits throughout the year. For example, if someone wanted to write a 60,000-word book, but said someone doesn’t write that much in the first place, or always breaks his/her writing commitments, then it would be better to just build a habit of writing as opposed to making the goal 60,000 words. In time, the work will get done, and this person in question will have built the habit that is writing on a daily/weekly basis.

For example, let’s say you work best in the morning. Therefore, you should do your most important tasks in the morning while your brain power is at an all-time high. Of course, we understand you can’t schedule all of your catering gigs (and normal business hours) during the mornings, but you can still do other tasks for your food truck business, such as making employee schedules, any form of paperwork, social media posts for your food truck, crunching numbers, etc.

As we said in a previous article, it’s important to create goals you are passionate about, and goals that will actually further your food truck career (and your business, of course). The last thing you want to do is create a goal just to create a goal. Not only is that a waste of time but it also creates an unnecessary distraction when it comes to your real goals. Plus, you will more than likely only stick with this goal for a short period of time, because you aren’t truly passionate about it.

There’s nothing worse (from a job standpoint, that is) than waking up each and every morning and dreading going to work, and then dreading everything about work once you are there. You took a stand to live a more fulfilling life, to create a legacy, by becoming a food truck owner. This was the ultimate move, and you did it. You became a chef in a booming industry as opposed to being miserable at a job you did not care for (yes, everyone is different, and there are plenty of folks who loved their previous jobs when they weren’t in the food truck industry, or perhaps weren’t just owners yet).

With this 2018 goal, the idea is to bring someone on to take on the daily operations at your food truck so you can spend most of your time trying to open up shop somewhere else (of course, everyone’s strategy is different), for it is rather tough to run a business that takes up 60-plus hours of your time per week and try to open up another one in the process.

Sneak Peek:
These are your goals, and you are the one who has to follow them every single day. Here’s the biggest thing: If you are not passionate about your goals, then you won’t spend too much time on them. If they are important enough to you, and if all you can think about is making them come true, then you will put in the time to change them from fantasy to reality.

Saying you want to make more money is great. Likewise, saying your goal is to make more money is also great. However, if you don’t get detailed with that plan by saying you are going to make $10,000 more in 2017 (just as an example), and you plan on reaching that goal by doing this, this and that, then don’t be surprised when you don’t make $10,000 more in 2017.

Every business owner should have this mindset. After all, you didn’t start up a business (in this case, a food truck) to be average. You started up a food truck business because you wanted to be a successful cook and have a thriving business. You think anything is possible, because with hard work, a great plan and action … anything truly is possible.
Sneak Peek:
The key with this step is becoming a goal-oriented person. Make your life more about your goals, and do things that are going to get you closer to your goals. For example, instead of watching TV for three hours at night (remember, this is just an example, because so many food truck owners don’t have the luxury of watching TV for three hours at night), learn more about business, or something in general that is going to get you closer to your goals and dreams.

Instead, your goal needs to be something along these lines: I want to increase my Facebook following by 2,000 likes in 2017. I plan on doing that by incorporating more giveaways, boosting posts that I think will do well and promoting my Facebook account more at my actual food truck. Since there are, of course, 12 months in a year, I plan on gaining 167 likes every month.

More likely than not, you became a mobile kitchen owner because, like we stated above, your passion is cooking. Therefore, you decided to finally go into all-in mode by following your dream of being a chef. This new life — being a cook for a living, that is — is likely way better than the alternative, which was, more likely than not, the previous job you were at, a job you might have despised.
