When Should Food Truck Owners Set Goals?

Editor’s Note: Today we’re excited to present a post from Jeremy Adams. Jeremy is the President/CEO of Prestige Food Trucks, which is the world’s leading custom food truck manufacturer. In his current role as President/CEO, Jeremy manages dozens of employees, interacts with clients, and maintains a healthy relationship with all of his business partners. Since Prestige, Jeremy has launched many other successful companies.

As a food truck owner, when do you set goals?

If you’re like most people, then you set your goals around the end or beginning of the year. This is a common goal-setting time for many people because New Year’s tends to be a time of reflection, and while you’re looking at the year you just had, you realize what changes you need to make.

It’s almost like magic — you realize you’ve been doing something wrong the entire time, or you realize there’s something you should have been doing the whole year, and you didn’t realize this until … well, New Year’s.

With that in mind, the problem with setting goals around this time — and only this time — is the fact that the magic that’s NYE tends to die a couple of weeks or months into the new year. Awesome goals eventually turn into forgotten goals.

That’s why we encourage food truck owners to constantly monitor their goals and incorporate reflection.

Set goals when a setback or failure occurs. Set goals when you achieve them or when/if you realize your New Year’s resolutions were a little too ambitious. Set goals when you realize what you wanted in the past (even if not much time has gone by) is not what you want now.

We also encourage food truck owners to create goals that they can actually stick to and goals that will benefit them and their businesses. That’s great that a goal sounds good on paper, but what will be the outcome and benefit if it actually comes true?

The biggest point we want to make: Don’t want until a new year to begin or one to end to reflect and make changes. This should be an ongoing process.

Any time of the year is the right time to set new goals as long as you’re serious about making them happen — and build the habits and consistency to achieve them.
