3 Ways Food Truck Owners Can Get Out Of A Funk

Editor’s Note: Today we’re excited to present a post from Jeremy Adams. Jeremy is the President/CEO of Prestige Food Trucks, which is the world’s leading custom food truck manufacturer. In his current role as President/CEO, Jeremy manages dozens of employees, interacts with clients, and maintains a healthy relationship with all of his business partners. Since Prestige, Jeremy has launched many other successful companies.

There are an endless amount of things people do to get out of funks, such as going for a walk, listening to music, going to a movie and the list could go on and on.

However, even with those types of ingredients, funks can still rear their ugly heads in no time, which is why we came up with three strategies for when food truck owners are face to face with the inevitable funk, and these strategies can be found below.

3 Ways Food Truck Owners Can Get Out Of A Funk

  • Create Something New
  • Remind Yourself Why You’re Doing This
  • Take Some Form Of Break

3.) Create Something New

As a food truck owner who owns his/her own business and kitchen, you have the power to create something new. For example, you could create a new meal, a new strategy for your business, an additional service (such as a catering service or selling some of your food products in bulk), etc.

How is this supposed to get you out of a funk, though?

For starters, your passion is likely cooking, so creating a new meal (or even a new menu, on a more extreme note) could help your passion shine through, and it could even remind you why you became a cook in the first place.

There are a number of different reasons why food truck owners might enter the inevitable funk, and one of the many reasons could come down to boredom. Don’t be afraid to spice things up, even if it just comes in the form of creating something new at (or for) your business.

Creativity is a very powerful tool.

2.) Remind Yourself Why You’re Doing This

Why did you become a food truck owner in the first place?

More likely than not, you became a mobile kitchen owner because, like we stated above, your passion is cooking. Therefore, you decided to finally go into all-in mode by following your dream of being a chef. This new life — being a cook for a living, that is — is likely way better than the alternative, which was, more likely than not, the previous job you were at, a job you might have despised.

Why did you become a food truck owner? Was it because you wanted to eventually open a sit-down restaurant? Maybe you wanted to run your own business and eventually be less hands-on with said business? Maybe you just wanted to work for yourself and you also love to cook, and you wanted to combine those ingredients?

With this step, make sure to incorporate the process that is reflecting, and be grateful for what you do have.

1.) Take Some Form Of Break

All in all, you might be in a funk because you are overwhelmed at your food truck business and you need a break. So when you get the chance, don’t be afraid to do exactly that.

Of course, you are running a business here, and you can’t just leave your business in the form of closing down shop whenever you want, but you can set vacation dates for later in the future.

Over time, you will know what months your food truck is typically busy and what months it is not, so use your knowledge to your power by planning a vacation for when your food truck is typically in a slow period (or during the offseason).

If all else fails, then start taking breaks on a daily basis in the form of going for walks, unplugging from social media and technology (possibly later at night when your work is finished), going to the gym or anything and everything that will help to get your mind clear and fresh.

There are many ways to defeat a funk, and we hope the three strategies above can do food truck owners wonders.
