Lesson No. 1: Owning a food truck business is tough — and that is quite an understatement. However, there are many people out there who decide not to own a sit-down restaurant and pick a food truck instead.
For those people, that is awesome. However, entering the food truck industry is no cakewalk. Going along those lines, here are some things no one tells you about owning a food truck business.
Some people entering this industry probably think they have to build a food truck from scratch, but that is far from the case. Used food trucks are also an option. Here’s another option: Buy a used food truck and make some tweaks.

You’re Not Sitting On A Gold Mine — Well, At Least Not Yet
The food truck industry is just a get-rich-quick scheme, right? Wrong. A future owner still has to create a killer business plan, pay for the food truck, hire an employee or two and the list goes on and on.
Not to mention, food truck owners typically work a ton of hours (try at least 10 a day). If you are looking to make money fast, then owning your own mobile kitchen is not the way to go, but that doesn’t mean you won’t eventually be sitting on a gold mine — because this industry is booming.
The Daily Grind Goes Beyond Being A Chef
You also have to manage employees, get supplies, interact with customers and do marketing for your business — because you are literally running a business. The worst part? We haven’t even gotten into those permits yet, but we will save that for a different day.
Being a chef might be the dream, but if you own your own mobile kitchen, there is some extra baggage attached — and that could be a good thing.

The Food You Serve Is Not The Only Thing That Matters
You know what else matters? Having customers and treating said customers right. Marketing, once again, also plays a major role. Having the best recipes on the planet is one heck of a start, and it also keeps the business going. However, without repeat customers, a business can’t thrive.
