3.) Once You Let The Task Go … Let It Go

As a perfectionist, business owner and a person who’s simply passionate about his/her food truck, it’s hard to let a task go.

Just remember, you’re giving away a task to free up your schedule so you can ideally focus on more important things or work less, and you’re also doing this to give your employees more responsibilities.

In the beginning, you, of course, want to give clear and precise instructions. After that, you have to trust your employee with the task. Staring over his/her shoulder won’t be beneficial for anyone involved.

So, once you delegate a task, let it go — it’s now the employee’s task to handle.

2.) Track Progress, Give Feedback And Try Not To Micromanage Too Much

While you don’t want to be caught looking over your employee’s shoulder, you still have to track progress and give feedback — when necessary. After all, you need to make sure things are getting done and in a timely fashion.

Whether it’s a weekly or monthly basis — you’re the business owner, so it’s your call — you have to track progress and give feedback. That’s the only way people (and your business) are going to improve.

At the same time, and going off of the point above, try not to micromanage too much. Sure, you might have done the delegated task a certain way when you were doing it, but let your employees try their own methods. What works for one person … might not work for the next.

1.) Show Appreciation With Incentives

We’re not saying you should give your employees a raise or bonus every single time they do their job, but you also shouldn’t put more work on their plate without bringing in some form of incentive.

While an employee will likely be thrilled to take on more responsibilities at first, this same employee could feel underpaid and underappreciated if he/she is working more hours and receiving the same paychecks as before.

Whether it’s a raise, a bonus, equity, saying “good job” or simply letting an employee off of work early (or giving your employee more vacation time), you should reward your employee for the extra work you put on said employee’s plate.
