It’s not easy managing your time as a food truck owner.
After all, your task list is likely never-ending and you also have to manage other people, not to mention all of the other things owners have to do in the food truck industry (cooking, serving, inventory, etc.).
So, that begs the question: How can you properly manage your time as a mobile kitchen owner?
While everyone’s businesses, schedules, lives and strategies are different, here are three ingredients you can incorporate to help with time management.
Properly Managing Your Time As A Food Truck Owner
Map Out Your Days
Some people work better with a to-do list and others a schedule that features everything they do in a day. No matter how you form your schedule, the way to stay ahead of it and actually ensure you get done with everything is by mapping out your days.
Over time, you will get used to certain tasks and will know how long each one takes to complete. Until then, creating a schedule with everything on it (including breaks and downtime) could help you manage your time better.

Don’t Overdo It
This is always easier said than done, for many food truck owners have a lot on their plates and also want to achieve a lot of success.
There are certain things you have to do every day, but overdoing it will only lead to burnout. Once burnout strikes, it will be hard to get back on track and you could lose serious momentum.
The key, in any industry, is consistency.
While we all play catch-up from time to time or get a boost of inspiration and go on a working spree, consistency will lead to steady success over a long period of time. It can also lead to less stress on a day-to-day basis since you won’t be trying to get done with more than what you can handle.

Adapt And Change
This is a tough technique for food truck owners (or owners in any industry) to incorporate because it’s hard to know when you should make changes. You don’t want to change up a strategy too early and especially not too late because both could lead to missing out on sales, opportunities, etc.
Only you know when it’s time to make changes at your food truck and to your daily and weekly schedules.
The important thing to remember is this: You’re allowed to change up your schedule if it becomes too overwhelmingly or you simply don’t have as much time for certain tasks as you thought you would. You’re also allowed to change things when you figure out more productive ways to get work done, such as doing tasks before you start cooking and serving food as opposed to trying to fit them into that time frame.
Nothing, whether good or bad, lasts forever, which is why it’s so important to adapt to your situation and make changes when necessary. Needless to say, that can lead to you properly managing your time over the long haul, because what works now, might not work later.
There are many other strategies you can incorporate, such as delegating and cutting out distractions, but we hope the three tips above can help you with your time management today.
