3 Things You Must Do To Become A Food Truck Owner

Food Truck Owner

Editor’s Note: Today we’re excited to present a post from Jeremy Adams. Jeremy is the President/CEO of Prestige Food Trucks, which is the world’s leading custom food truck manufacturer. In his current role as President/CEO, Jeremy manages dozens of employees, interacts with clients, and maintains a healthy relationship with all of his business partners. Since Prestige, Jeremy has launched many other successful companies.

Following your dreams is a rather tough journey, and this is very well known.

Not only do you have to put in the work to make your dreams come true, which could take years to happen, but you have to fight off the naysayers every step of the way … and stay just as passionate as you were the very first day you decided to embark on this journey. Plus, and especially if you want to become a food truck owner, you have to do everything above and come up with a ton of money to make your dream come true.

In other words, you can’t just work on your craft (which is cooking) and then eventually enter the food truck industry. You also have to buy a food truck and all of the equipment.

With that said, we don’t want to discourage anyone, because you can enter the mobile kitchen industry in the future if that’s what you want to do, and we are about to dish out three ingredients that will help you out along the way.

3.) Your Homework

If you want to become a successful food truck owner, then you need to do your homework, and said homework can — and should — be on a wide range of topics, such as the following:

  • How to save up money.
  • How to create a business plan.
  • How to find the perfect food truck location(s).
  • How to create a menu.
  • How to run a business.
  • How to manage employees.
  • How to be a leader and a good boss.
  • Parking, permits, rules, laws, etc.
  • Catering and food truck events.
  • Social media.

The list could go on and on.

If you have a question about anything relating to being a food truck owner, then you should research that stuff now. The more you learn now, the better off you will be once you do become a food truck owner, and the easier your journey will be along the way.

Even if you have the necessary funds to become a food truck owner right now, you still need to do your research. Too many people enter the food truck industry unprepared, and they wonder why they can’t survive and thrive as a result (spoiler: this happens in every single industry).

One of the best things you can do for anything is prepare, so do your homework now in hopes of hitting the ground running once you become an owner, and so you also build the habit that is learning on a consistent basis (this habit should never die).

2.) Become A Dreamer AND A Doer

Everyone has a dream, but not everyone actually takes the necessary steps to make that dream come true. Therefore, if you want to turn your dream into a reality, then you have to be a dreamer and a doer.

Dream big and then take action.

It’s fine if you constantly tell your friends and family members how badly you want to be a chef and what you plan on doing with your food truck business in the future (that’s where the dreaming portion comes into play), but all of that talk isn’t going to actually lead to your goals and dreams coming true. That’s why you also need to be a doer.

So, take your first step today. Tomorrow, take another step. The day after that, another. Repeat that process every day … and you will become a food truck owner.

1.) Be Patient

Even if you follow the two ingredients above, it still might be a while until you can enter the food truck industry, because as mentioned above, you need the actual funds (not just the skills and passion) to become an owner in this industry.

With that said, here are two words you always need to keep in mind: Be patient.

Dreams typically don’t happen overnight.

If you continue to work away on your dreams day by day, and if you continue to stay passionate, you will get closer to your dreams. You can’t simply work hard for a week and then expect real change, or a miracle to happen.

Consistent hard work is the key. Of course, you also need to be patient. Your time will come.

Oh yeah, we also encourage you to enjoy the ride, because the journey is the fun part.
