Don’t Make These Mistakes If You Are A Food Truck Business Owner

Mistakes

People make mistakes all the time.

The key is to limit the mistakes, and to also learn from them when you do make them. Of course, that’s easier said than done, especially if you don’t even know you are making a mistake in the first place. Yes, that’s easy to do in this industry, because you are so focused on making food and serving customers, and other things tend to get placed on the back burner in the process.

We want to help you out, FoodTruckrs, so we are about to point out four mistakes that are constantly being made in the food truck industry. Make sure to recognize them, learn from them and then take action.

Don’t Make These Mistakes If You Are A Food Truck Business Owner

4. Not Updating Your Social Media Accounts

Social media tends to go under the radar a lot in the food truck industry, and when times get tough (and extremely busy), this is the first place mobile kitchen owners tend to do their sacrificing. Of course, that’s not the case for every single food truck owner.

Social media needs to be part of your business plan, and you really should be making some killer social media strategies, for it can lead to you interacting/engaging with your customers … and it could also lead to you gaining and retaining new customers. Social media is a great place to reach your target audience with minimal time, effort and money.

In this day and age, every business needs to be on social media, and food truck businesses are no different. Therefore, don’t make the mistake that is not updating your accounts regularly. And remember, you don’t have to have every social media network — stick to the ones that are useful for you and your business (Facebook is typically a must-have, though).

3. Only Focusing On The Food

As a new food truck owner, it’s pretty easy to only focus in on the food. After all, this is your product, your passion, and it’s probably the reason why you entered the food truck industry in the first place. With that in mind, there are plenty of other aspects — and rather important ones — that FoodTruckrs need to focus on, such as the business side of things (like revenue, salaries, inventory, etc.), customer service, training/managing employees, being a boss, being a leader and the list could go on and on.

While the food is clearly very, very important, it’s also important to look at every aspect of your business, because all of it is important.

2. Being Afraid To Delegate Work

So many owners grow super attached to their businesses. It even gets to the point where they are afraid to delegate tasks. They become perfectionists. We understand … but if you want to be the most productive version of yourself, then you’re going to have to delegate work at some point.

Not only will this take some tasks off of your plate (probably literally and figuratively), it will give you more time to do other things, and it will also give your employees more responsibilities — and that’s a serious win for everyone involved.

The sooner you start delegating work (you know, and have the ability to do so, and the employees to delegate work to), the sooner you will be able to get more done/have less work to do.

1. Not Branching Out

If you stay in your bubble, then you will never be as successful as you want to be. Likewise, your business will not expand as much as you want it to expand, which could crush dreams like opening up another food truck, franchising your trucks, opening up a sit-down restaurant, etc.

Therefore, never be afraid to branch out in this wonderful industry. You can do so via catering gigs, food truck events and by checking out the advice in this article.

Don’t just stay put and do the same things you have always done — well, unless this strategy is leading to a thriving business. Don’t be afraid to try new things, whether it’s a new social media strategy, a new menu, new locations or whatever it might be.

Always be thinking of new ways to make your business better.
