The secret to goals: Doing whatever works for you.
Yes, while it is in most people’s best interest to create a goal that is measurable and reasonable (yet challenging), and then attaching a deadline and plan to it, you are the one who has to follow this goal every day, so it is best to do what works for you.
So, how should food truck owners approach their goals in 2018?
However they would like.
If there is a certain method that works for you, then by all means stick to it.
If you are the type of person who can only focus on one goal at a time, or only want to focus on one goal at a time, then stick to that. However, if you’re the type of person who needs to create 10 or more goals to achieve success, then do that.
So many people give advice when it comes to goals, and that is all well and good, but what they are really doing is telling people what works for them. Reminder: What works for one person … might not work for everyone.
If you need to make SMART goals to achieve success, then do so. However, if you like to be more flexible with your goals so they don’t seem like a task/job/chore, then be more flexible with them. At the end of the day, you, food truck owner, are the one who has to follow the goal, so while receiving advice from an outside perspective allows you to get a … well, outside perspective, it doesn’t mean it is the answer for you.
You are the one who is the food truck owner. You know how your food truck operates, you know what is achievable at your truck and you know how to make your own dreams come true (you became a food truck owner, right?).

There are people who, instead of making goals, like to create habits, and then work on those habits throughout the year. For example, if someone wanted to write a 60,000-word book, but said someone doesn’t write that much in the first place, or always breaks his/her writing commitments, then it would be better to just build a habit of writing as opposed to making the goal 60,000 words. In time, the work will get done, and this person in question will have built the habit that is writing on a daily/weekly basis.

It’s true that goals without deadlines/plans are more like dreams, but that is not the case for everyone. Some people create a goal — without a deadline/plan attached to it — and achieve it. Some people are wired that way. The point being, everyone is wired differently, so come up with a plan that works for you when it comes to your goals.
There are so many ways to approach goals in 2018. The key is doing what works for you, because you are the one who has to make this goal happen, and you are the one who has to live with it being achieved or not achieved — no one else.

So, in 2018, approach your goals however you would like. Just make sure to be honest with yourself. If you have failed to reach your goals in the past, then try a new method, whether that method is being more strict, or lenient, during the goal-making process. On the other hand, if you knock your goals out of the park on a yearly basis, then stick with the method that has worked for you in the past.
Nonetheless, good luck in 2018, FoodTruckrs! We know you can make all of your goals and dreams come true!
