The food truck industry is an amazing industry for so many different reasons. If you are a food lover, then this industry is second-to-none thanks to the great meals that are served up on a daily basis. Not to mention, the variety is tremendous.
For instance, foodies can go to a taco truck one day and then get Argentine food the very next day. In terms of Argentine food, that is exactly what Barroluco Argentine Comfort Food is bringing to the table.
FoodTruckr had the pleasure of speaking with Victor Omar D’Angelo of Barroluco Argentine Comfort Food. Barroluco might serve up delicious Argentine food, but it’s actually located in Columbus, Ohio. According to D’Angelo, Barroluco’s goal is “to establish Barroluco as an affordable-luxury, fast-casual mobile restaurant and bakery.” Nonetheless, this food truck is offering up otherworldly food left and right, and they also cater.
D’Angelo learned the ways of the bakery industry from his father.
“My father is a baker… For 15 years there in Argentina, I was able to experience a bakery business. We moved to Columbus, Ohio in 2000,” D’Angelo said.
D’Angelo knew it was important to know the language and get an education, so he went to college and got a degree in Business Administration from Franklin University in 2013. From there, he had big plans when it came to the food industry.
“From there, I wanted to open up a restaurant and bakery.”
When asked what makes Barroluco Argentine Comfort Food so unique, D’Angelo responded with the flavor and empanadas.
“I got the loan in March of this year and I just got the truck custom built a month ago. So I’ve been with this truck a month… My menu now is very small, so the main dish that I sell is the empanadas.”
In a nutshell, an empanada is a stuffed pastry that can be baked or fried, and it comes with a whole lot of flavor.
Of course, D’Angelo’s menu is packed with unique foods.
“Since we have influence on Spain, Italy and Germany in Argentina, we have paella style rice.”
When asked what his favorite part about being a food truck owner was, D’Angelo talked about the atmosphere and the convenience of a food truck as a result of it being mobile.
“It’s like a transformation machine… I can move it anywhere and just make the atmosphere what I want. The atmosphere that I provide is more like a family or welcoming.”
Of course, being in the food truck industry isn’t all fun and games. Although it is a magnificent industry for food lovers and food truck owners alike, it does come with its fair share of aches and pains, if you will.
“I think that the difficult part is to keep the quality. The quality is the most important. The second one, in my case, is I work 24/7. I don’t stop. I’ve been looking for people to train, and it is a little difficult to find people sometimes. Now, at the moment, I have so many friends that are helping me, supporting me.”
Another issue for D’Angelo in the food truck industry is finding the actual food. According to D’Angelo, there’s not many places where you can purchase Argentine food in Columbus.
“There’s no restaurants. There’s not many supplies. We do it all, because we know how to.”
Everyone needs help in this industry, which is why we asked D’Angelo what advice he would give to future food truck owners.
“I would say to have good capital and a massive marketing plan strategy.”
Some people don’t realize how many hours you log in this industry, and they also don’t realize how hot it can be inside of a food truck, especially during the summer. D’Angelo, along with many other food truck owners, deal with these issues every single day. That is why being a food truck owner is not for the faint of heart, if you will.
While being a food truck owner isn’t the easiest job in the world, D’Angelo has plenty of support.
“We offer the best, from the customer service to the quality, and we have all of the support from our family and friends.”
As D’Angelo put it, Barroluco Argentine Comfort Food helps to unite the flavors of South America and North America. As a result, folks who venture to Barroluco Argentine Comfort Food will be getting a taste of Argentine food right there in Columbus, Ohio.
